A little creature from one of my fiance's nightmares a few days ago, I felt compelled to give her form after he told me about her, because I'm cruel like that and couldn't get the image out of my head. Enjoy As always, criticism, tips and feedback is greatly appreciated
Drawn in: ballpoint pen Colored in: Faber Castell color pencils Taken with: G-SII
I very much enjoy the use of colored pencil and ballpoint pen to create an atmospheric effect. Ballpoint pen I feel is an underrated tool that can be used to great effect if it's used properly. You definitely got the right vibe down with your choice of traditional media selection and style. Since it's a depiction of a dream, I may not know fully the truth of how she's depicted, so this crit should probably be taken with a grain of salt.
I do have some issues with the anatomy of the girl, though. Even if it's supposed to look like her head and neck are disjointed, it looks like the spine and skull don't articulate properly. The spine attaches more near the back of the skull, rather than directly under. Also, her neck, shoulder, and spine area are misaligned, with the shoulder in the foreground set a bit too low and sloped strangely. Her hips also don't look well placed, like her legs were drawn under her dress without the position of the body mapped out under it first. Maybe you could very lightly in pencil plan out the body underneath, so that the anatomy of the characters look less disjointed? (if you don't already)
My other big issue is with how the lolipop kind of floats in her hand, rather than looking like she's holding it. If she's dropping it, then it should probably be depicted less ambiguously.
I rated low on originality simply because this is a depiction of another person's dream. That itself doesn't really detract from the picture though. Overall I really like this, and I'd love to see you do more traditional work as you improve.
